M.A Estudio was founded in 2017 by Melissa Ávila, a multidisciplinary artist from Tijuana. Now based in Mexico City, Melissa collaborates with 30 artisans from a variety of states, including Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Michoacán to produce textiles and clay pieces that bring together contemporary design with traditional methods — a core component of M.A’s ethos. Melissa is passionate about the conservation of traditional processes and hopes her project “can be a bridge to the native communities of Mexico, helping to preserve craftsmanship and create both opportunity and income using fair and horizontal manufacturing practices.” After visiting M.A’s colorful, sun-filled studio in the historical Edificio Humboldt and seeing Melissa and her team's passion for their work, we knew we wanted to participate in their inspiring mission.
