Patricia Gaytán
In the enchanting village of Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca, master artisan Patricia Gaytán carries on the legacy of filigrana de barro, an intricate pottery technique unique to the region. With meticulous skill, she crafts delicate designs using thin coils of clay, creating lace-like patterns that adorn her pottery pieces. We had the pleasure of visiting Paty in her home studio, a welcoming and inspiring space where her passion and dedication to preserving Santa María Atzompa's artistic traditions shone through. Her stunning creations not only showcase her mastery of the craft but also serve as tangible expressions of the community's rich cultural heritage, deeply rooted in Zapotec traditions.
