This remarkable mask comes to us from the Purépecha community of Zopoco, Michoacán, crafted by artisan Eduardo Victor Esteban. Michoacán is deeply celebrated for its rich, complex traditions of ceremonial and decorative mask-making, and Eduardo’s work beautifully keeps this cultural heritage alive. He prepares the local clay by hand, meticulously modeling the dramatic horns, extended tongue, and the intricate crowning figure from scratch before firing the piece to a rustic finish. Every single line and dot is then painted by hand using a fine brush and natural white slip. To make displaying this piece easy, the reverse side features two integrated holes, which we have pre-strung with a premium, durable waxed cotton cord so it arrives ready to hang flush against your wall.
