Deeply rooted in the Nahua traditions of the Balsas River Valley, this masterpiece is hand-painted by artisan Miguel Ascensio in Xalitla, Guerrero. Xalitla is internationally celebrated for its intricate amate paintings, an immersive narrative art form passed down through generations to record local folklore, harvests, and village festivities. The canvas itself is papel amate—an ancient, pre-Hispanic bark paper handmade by boiling and pounding the inner fibers of wild fig trees. As seen in the exquisite detailing of each scene, Miguel's precise brushwork brings the landscape to life, bridging Mesoamerican heritage with contemporary folk art. To honor the delicate beauty of the craft, each of the six unique versions was custom-framed in Mexico City using a textured mat and premium non-reflective glass, preserving the raw texture of the bark paper while allowing the vivid colors to shine without glare.
