The Story

Handcrafted in the highlands of Amatenango del Valle, Chiapas, this vessel is the work of master ceramicist Elena Bautista Perez. In this Tzeltal Maya community, Elena and her family continue an ancestral tradition, shaping local clay by hand and firing each piece in an open-air flame—a technique passed down through generations. The pot celebrates the Jaguar, a sacred Mayan symbol of strength and protection. Using natural black mineral paint, Elena meticulously hand-paints the jaguar’s iconic spots among a garden of blooming flowers.
