Pájaro Figurine
Hand-sculpted in Tonalá, Jalisco, by master ceramicist Antonio de Jesús Díaz Medrano, this charming burnished clay bird figure exemplifies the vibrant storytelling of fine Tonalá pottery. Painted entirely by hand using fine animal-hair brushes, the stylized songbird features delicate flora and intricate fine-line details. Each piece undergoes exhaustive stone-burnishing prior to wood-firing, giving its contoured surface a sleek, satiny polish. A striking standalone accent, it adds folk art elegance, rich color, and sculpted charm to a mantle, entryway console, or bookshelf stack.

Handcrafted in Tonalá, Jalisco, by award-winning fifth-generation master ceramicist Antonio de Jesús Díaz Medrano, this piece pays homage to the iconic avian motifs deeply embedded in Jalisco pottery. Synthesizing the refined barro bruñido techniques of his father, Roberto Díaz, with the expressive, colorful palette of his mother’s barro betus legacy, Antonio creates figurative works of extraordinary graphic character. Each sculpture is hand-modeled from locally sourced native clay, painted with natural earth pigment slips (palmeado), and hand-polished with river stones to seal the surface without synthetic glazes. A member of the renowned Herencia Milenaria artisan collective, Antonio’s original sculptures represent the pinnacle of contemporary Mexican ceramic art.
