Tonalá Guaje Vessel
Hand-formed and painted in Tonalá, Jalisco, by master ceramicist Antonio de Jesús Díaz Medrano, this small burnished clay guaje captures the charm of traditional Mexican gourd-shaped vessels. Crafted from native clays, the double-bulb form is hand-painted using fine animal-hair brushes and natural mineral slips. Each vessel is individually stone-burnished to achieve a silky, lustrous sheen without synthetic glazes, making it a delightful accent for a mantel, bookshelf, or vanity tray.

Handcrafted in Tonalá, Jalisco, by fifth-generation master ceramicist Antonio de Jesús Díaz Medrano, this piece pays homage to the historical guaje, an ancient gourd vessel traditionally used throughout rural Mexico to store water and liquids. Drawing on techniques inherited from his father, Roberto Díaz (barro bruñido), and his mother, María Refugio Medrano Lemus (barro betus), Antonio transforms this functional folk shape into an intricate canvas for fine art painting. Each piece is hand-burnished using river stones to seal the natural clay pores and fix the earth pigments before wood-firing.
